Linux Video Studio

This site is dedicated to a Linux Video Studio, a simple/small application to make the capturing of video on MJPEG-hardware CODEC boards easier.

The application uses the MJPEG-tools, a set of programs to capture video and do lots of things with this. You need to have MJPEG-Tools installed before trying to install Linux Video Studio (also see installation notes) ! Linux Video Studio also uses the Xvideo extension in XFree 4.x to see what you're recording.

But that is not all. I want more than just capturing. My dream is to create one big application that does all the work at once. Not just one application for capturing, one for editing (xlav?), etc. No, my dream is to have one application doing it all. I hope Linux Video Studio can be part of that.

There were some bugs in the 0.1.6 release, such as the fact that MPEG encoding often didn't work because we accidentily precede the name by the file extension, but that path doesn't exist. We fixed most of them, go to the downloads-page to download a tarball, source RPM or binary RPM of our flashy new 0.1.7 version! See the ChangeLog for a full list of changes.

We're back! This Linux Video Studio is 100% compatible with mjpegtools-1.6, has support for distributed encoding, has many fixes in the editor (which should now work correctly) and has support for encoding back to MJPEG (besides MPEG and DivX). Next to all this, we also provide RPMs for your convenience! What are you waiting for? Go to the downloads-page to download a tarball, source RPM or binary RPM! See the ChangeLog for a full list of changes.

Some people even thought we were dead! Nothing is less true, we're alive and kicking. Bernhard Praschinger and me (Ronald Bultje) are proud to announce Linux Video Studio 0.1.5! There's a huge list of changes, which you can find in the ChangeLog, included in the tarball or available here. We're now fully MJPEGtools-1.6 compatible and still MJPEGtools-1.4 backwards compatible. Besides Linux Video Studio, we now also have a small TV-app called Studio-TV. It's doesn't make coffee for you, or capture videos, or whatever all the other TV-apps do. It just shows TV. Go to the downloads-page to download either of them!

0.1.3 was obviously a large update over previous versions, but unfortunately, it had a few bugs which shouldn't be there. 0.1.4 is a bigfix release which should fix most bugs discovered until now. Go to the downloads-page to download it!

Finally, there's a new version! 0.1.3 is able to record video, just like all the previous versions. But we can do more! There are some simple editing functions now, we hope to extend them with more options later on. And there's finally the MPEG-wrapper. What are you waiting for? Go to the downloads-page to download it!

Version 0.1.2 suffered a stupid buffer overflow problem. My fault, I fixed it quickly. Download the patched version (0.1.2a) on the downloads-page.

Studio 0.1.2 is out. It includes double piping with lavrec, which means that you don't need a terminal window anymore. But, since I didn't work on any error handling yet, I sugest you have a terminal window open and run with the "-d" switch ("studio -d") to see lavrec errors.Besides that, there's also some lavrec functionality (but this needs to be extended, this was just to have something :-) ). Download it on the downloads-page.

Linux Studio will from now on be called Linux Video Studio since someone else was already using our name and requested a name change.

I just learned never to mess up your firewall, as my webserver seems to have been unreachable for a few days. It's back again, and FTP will be back soon. Cause: I replaced my freeBSD server with an openBSD server.

Studio 0.1.1 is a large update over Studio 0.1. It contains audio capturing options, it now has it's own configuration file (so you don't need to specify your specific configuration over and over again). It also includes a video screen based on the Xvideo extension of XFree 4.x. I also added some command line options (see 'studio -h'). Studio also supports multiple config files, try using 'studio -c <name>' for a config style. Download it on the downloads-page.

--- Thursday, 18 january 2001 ---

The capturing part is ready! It means, simply, that you can start this GUI (it still requires lavrec) to do the hard work in recording video. Download it on the downloads-page.
