"Make your iPhone / iPod Touch a wireless USB Stick!"

ioPhile is an iPhone application that lets you transfer files to / from your iPhone / iPod Touch. On the device, you can view some commonly used file types (e.g. PDF, images, Office / iWork documents). Using the "dynamic password generation" feature, you can quickly and safely share these documents with friends without you having to tell them your own password.


Set-up

To use ioPhile, you'll need the following:

  1. An iPhone / iPod touch running iPhone OS 3.1 or later (or the iPod Touch equivalent)
  2. A computer running any recent version of Mac, Windows or Linux
  3. A wireless network for your computer and iPhone / iPod Touch
  4. ioPhile (iPhone application)

How to Use

To simply transfer files to and from your iPhone / iPod Touch:

  1. Start the ioPhile application.
  2. Click the "i" button (bottom) to view your network address.
  3. On your Mac (⌘-K in Finder), Windows (Ctrl-O in Explorer) or Linux computer, connect to this network address.
  4. You can now upload and download files to / from your iPhone / iPod Touch.

To share documents with friends with "dynamic password generation":

  1. Make sure that dynamic passwords are turned on in the "Preferences".
  2. In "Security" (bottom), click the session that belongs to your friend's computer.
  3. Select the type of access you want to grant your friend (read-only, or read / write).
  4. Now, your friend will be shown a password valid for this session. He can log in with any username and this password from one computer. The password will automatically expire after a minute of inactivity.
